ELEMENTARY CLASSES AND ACCESSIBLE CATEGORIES T. BEKE∗ AND J. ROSICKÝ∗∗ Abstract. We investigate properties of accessible categories with directed colimits and their relationship with categories arising from Shelah’s Abstract Elementary Classes. We also investigate ranks of objects in accessible categories, and the effect of accessible functors on ranks. Μ-abstract Elementary Classes and Other Generalizations
We introduce μ-Abstract Elementary Classes (μ-AECs) as a broad framework for model theory that includes complete boolean algebras and metric spaces, and begin to develop their classification theory. Moreover, we note that μ-AECs correspond precisely to accessible categories in which all morphisms are monomorphisms, and begin the process of reconciling these divergent perspectives: for example, ...
متن کاملInternal Sizes in Μ-abstract Elementary Classes
The internal size of an objectM inside a given category is, roughly, the least infinite cardinal λ such that any morphism from M into the colimit of a λ+-directed system factors through one of the components of the system. The existence spectrum of a category is the class of cardinals λ such that the category has an object of internal size λ. We study the existence spectrum in μ-abstract elemen...

elementary classes (Shelah 1987) form a special case of the former (Lieberman 2011, Beke and JR 2012) and generalize Lκω-elementary classes. Surprisingly, I do not know any abstract elementary class which does not have an Lκω-axiomatization (as an abstract category). With Makkai, we failed to prove that uncountable sets with injective mappings form such an example. It seemed a long time that th...

متن کاملAround superstability in Metric Abstract Elementary Classes
Metric Abstract Elementary Classes (MAECs) correspond to an amalgam of the notions of Abstract Elementary Classes (AECs) and Elementary Class in the Continuous Logic. In this work, we study a proof of uniqueness (up to isomorphism) of Limit Models in MAECs [ViZa10a, Za1x], under superstability-like assumptions. Assuming this uniqueness of Limit Models, it is possible to do a preliminar study of...
